Education Manager - Benjamin Franklin House
Salary: £ 25,000 - 27,000 p.a depending on experience

Job Description:
The Benjamin Franklin House Education Manager will work to engage inner city London school children (primarily Key Stage II) in hands-on, Franklin-related science, and create and maintain relationships with teachers to provide extensive support before, during and after school visits to the Student Science Centre to ensure maximum educational value. The Education Manager not only designs and oversees the delivery of high quality educational programmes but also organises a variety of educational events, including teacher round tables, lectures and exhibitions. The Education Manager is also responsible for the recruitment, training and scheduling of the House’s team of interns and volunteers.
Required skills:
• Excellent teaching ability, writing and communication skills
• A self-starter with the ability to take direction, working closely with the House's Director, and, in addition, with other colleagues as part of a small team
Role includes:
• Liaising with schools and organising visits
• Keeping up to date with Key Stage II curriculum developments to ensure that education programmes are relevant to the national curriculum
• Developing resources and study packs for school projects
• Finding creative ways to develop new outreach activities for inner city London school children
• Managing the Student Science Centre
• Teaching and delivering a range of educational activities - in addition to those aimed at primary schools - for secondary schools, universities, and adult learners, both in-House and externally
• Liaising with a variety of organisations, community groups (especially those local to the House) and teachers
• Marketing and audience development/strategic partnerships with other organisations
• Developing and managing outreach extra-curricular activities (e.g., annual Benjamin Franklin House Science Day and Science Fair, workshops, special days for SEN students, storytelling events, science and archaeology weeks, study packs)
• Managing the volunteer and intern pool (including recruiting, devising training programmes in museum operations/education/marketing and overseeing staffing rotas)
• Assisting colleagues with the smooth running of the House
• Identifying financial needs and potential funding sources for Student Science Centre
• Liaising with US counterparts in developing transatlantic programming
• Conducting regular evaluation with all stakeholders on programme effectiveness
• Some evening and weekend work will be required.
