Education Manager - The British Museum

The British Museum is working with the Tourism Development & Investment Company, Abu Dhabi to support them in the development of a new national museum to be called the Zayed National Museum. The new museum is being designed by Foster + Partners and it is intended that it will explore the history of the United Arab Emirates and the wider Middle East region. It will also house a Presidential Library enabling the visitor to explore the life and times of Sheikh Zayed as well as a falconry centre where the history of falconry will be presented.
As Education Manager, you will be responsible for developing links with education stakeholders in Abu Dhabi at both governmental and institutional level. You will have responsibility for devising and implementing formal and informal learning programmes which are reflective of the collection, with the purpose of maximising visitor engagement with exhibitions and collections. You will also plan and oversee formative research to fill relevant gaps in the museum’s knowledge about educational users.
Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field, you will experience of managing projects within an educational or cultural environment. A practical up to date understanding of teaching/ learning issues and methods within a museum context is essential, as is experience of programming high quality events, lectures and films. You will possess excellent time management skills and be able to prioritise work effectively. An excellent communicator, you will also work well as part of a team.
This role will require frequent travel to Abu Dhabi.
